Robert Everett Stanard
My interest in mechanical engineering began while I was in high school. I had
always been good in math and science, so engineering was a suitable match for me. I was
also very good at working with my hands, so mechanical engineering was most suitable
engineering field for me. Georgia Tech provided the opportunity for me to take many
courses which prepared me for challenges in the work force and graduate school.
Now in graduate school at University of
California Berkeley, I hope to continue to learn and grow in my knowledge of
mechanical engineering. The research experiences and technical
knowledge that I have gained at both U.C. Berkeley and Georgia Tech has aided
me in developing a solid base for understanding and practicing mechanical
engineering.
My research interests lie in the area of mechanical design and manufacturing.
I have been exposed to many aspects of manufacturing & design during my studies at The Georgia
Institute of Technology and now at The University of California, Berkeley. As
a freshman, my interest in manufacturing & design began during several cooperative work
assignments in which I was asked to design for various plant operations. This
interest was further enhanced after taking several undergraduate courses in
mechanical design and manufacturing at Georgia Tech. In the summer of 1992, I
acquired more research experience in design during a research fellowship at The
University of California, Berkeley. I believe that graduate research in
mechanical design and manufacturing is an excellent opportunity for me to make a
noteworthy contribution to new developments in mechanical engineering, while
enhancing my knowledge and experience of this field.
