Engineering managers plan, coordinate and direct research,  development, design, production, and computer related  activities. They supervise and coordinate the efforts of their  engineers, scientists, technicians, and computer specialists in  the engineering or technical support departments within a  company. They must confer with other departments and  upper managers in order to coordinate the activities of their  unit with the activities of other units within the organization. 

  


  • Plans projects by studying customer requirements, 
  • market demand, and competitor's products.
  • Identifies and analyzes trends in technology.
  • Confers and collaborates with other members of 
  • management representing the position and concerns of the engineering department.
  • Determines the feasibility of projects by identifying and
  • forecasting costs and requirements.
  • Directs and approves design and modification activities.
  • Schedules and assigns engineering employees to specific
  • projects and assignments to meet the technical needs of the organization.
  • Manages engineering personnel by recruiting, selecting, orienting and training employees.
  • Coaches, counsels, monitors, disciplines and appraises engineering personnel.
  • Prepares engineering budgets, schedules expenditures, and oversees capital expenditures.
  • Sets presentation guidelines and formats for engineering projects.
