We saved the biggest tree until last - The Giant Tree in Rockefeller Forest, Humboldt Redwoods
The trip:

We finally got to see the world's tallest trees at Humboldt Redwoods State Park and Redwood National Park in northern California. At 362ft, we thought we'd seen the tallest redwood in the Tall Trees Grove in Redwood National Park but no - the current champion is a whopping 370ft tall and can be found in Rockefeller Forest, Humboldt Redwoods Sate Park. These trees have to be seen to be believed - a photo doesn't do them justice.

It was a rapid trip leaving the day after thanksgiving from a rainy San Francisco to a cold but beautiful Northen California. We had a cold and wet camp but great weather in the trees during the days to see them by ourselves and at their best. An extra unexpected highlight was the proliferation of mushrooms and toadstools that provided interest at the base of the giants.
