Here is what some members say about UFA/UMCG:
Coming on to campus last year as a clueless and lost freshman, I wondered
exactly what I was going to do with my time here at Cal. I also wondered
what I was going to do with my time after I had graduated. I already knew
that I wanted to become a business major, and realized that I had to
really start working hard in order to get into Haas.
One day I was walking from class back to my home, and I saw a huge
UFA/UMCG Fall Investment Banking Forum poster hanging from the MLK
student Union... and thought that it would be the perfect opportunity to
examine the field that I was going to go into. A couple of months then
went by as I went to more and more of UFA/UMCG's events (I became a
member after the Investment Banking Forum). Their Internship Forum was
what really convinced me that UFA/UMCG was serious about it's charter
to help students in the Investment Banking, Investmenet Management, and
Management Consulting arena. UFA/UMCG introduced me to what would
later be my first internship with a large company in the Bay Area.

As a freshman, I looked at all of the business clubs at Cal and found that
UFA/UMCG is the most professional, worthwhile organization to join.
UFA/UMCG has a clear mission: to help its members become more competitive
candidates by educating them about the finance and consulting industries
and the job opportunities available. And, UFA/UMCG provides valuable
tools and resources to accomplish this. I have used the corporate
directory and internship directory to land internships, and the alumni
database to learn more about the industries and different firms.
Other clubs require you to rush and pay hefty fees, are more
social-oriented, or simply do nothing in terms of educating and preparing
its members for their job search. But UFA/UMCG doesn't ask for anything
(except a small membership fee). It is up to you if you want to attend
the events or utilize our resources. You are only invited to our
events.
Being affiliated with UFA/UMCG has provided me with resources, including its
events, its publications, its members, its officers, and its alums, to
gain an advantage in the recruiting process.

I believe the greatest resource UFA/UMCG has to offer is its members (both
past and present). When I first became involved in the club, I knew very
little about the Investment Banking or Management Consulting industries;
let alone anything about job opportunities. As my involvement has
progressed, not only did I learn from club sponsored events, but I learned
from experienced club members. I have gained so much exposure to the
industry over the past several years and interacted with so many
individuals, that I have a friend or an advocate inside a number of firms
around the industry.

In the time I have been part of UFA/UMCG I have never seen anything less
than the best. In addition to being a professional group that has built a
solid and lasting relationship with the leading firms, the club has been
a spring board where I have been able to improved my own interpersonal
and communication skills.

What distinguishes UFA/UMCG from other professional clubs is that it
has achieved a good balance between educating students and assisting
students act on what they have learned. UFA/UMCG is both educational
and action-oriented. Since I became a UFA/UMCG member and officer, I
have learned the differences between consulting firms, the industires
which they serve, and the role which an entry level person would play
in the firm.
In addition to obtaining knowledge of the various aspects within the field
of consulting. I am
also given the opportunity to act on my knowledge during professional
forums and workshops. Not only am I able to network with consultants
on a professional level, I am also able to get to know them personally
as well as get a sense of their corporate culture. These factors will
contribute to my decision in which firm is will offer the greatest
challenges and opportunity for me.

As a student with a technical background, UFA/UMCG has served as the
single most important resource to expand my knowledge of the fields of
investment banking,
investment management, and management consulting. The group presents
first class events which posess the breadth and depth required to conduct a
meaningful career search. UFA/UMCG also offers an unparalled
opportunity to meet young professionals in these fields, many of whom were past
officers or members. It is definite advantage to hear from
them first hand about a firm's culture and industry trends.

I joined UFA/UMCG because the club serves to educate people about
Investment Banking, Investment Management, and Management Consulting. It
also helped my internship/job search in many tangible ways. The
interview/resume workshops, alumni night, and professional forums gave me
the opportunity to learn about IB, IM and MC and to talk to professionals
in those fields. Knowing the industry gave me an edge in my job
interviews.

As a student interested in finance and investment banking I was initally
overwhelmed at the different opportunties avialable for Cal students.
Even when focusing ones's career serach in investment banking, the
possibilieties are unlimited. From working with a big fortune 500 firm in
London, to a smaller botique in San Francisco, I recognized immediately
that I needed to join an organization to help me sort through the
industry. This is where UFA/UMCG comes in; this student run organization
had the resources and committment to get me up to spped. Their board
members were extrmeley helpful in explaing the different terms used in
investment banking. M&A, IPO, and P/E were defined, and the officers made
the learning process fun. The information that was produced every
semester also helped. Internship directories, corporate directories, and
alumni directories, all contained a wealth of information. UFA/UMCG is
basically a one stop information center for students interested in banking,
consulting, or money management.
