DIRECTOR OF WEB SITE OPERATIONS

·        Director of Web Site Operations for site ranked by MediaMetrix in terms of traffic and usage as one of the leading Internet destinations for nation-wide apartment listings.  Managed a team of system administrators to deploy servers, network, operating and monitoring software at co-location site and to deliver applications and content created by Web development team.

·        Designed and deployed system architecture to support 7x24 operation with better than 99% availability and 100% local redundancy.  Systems hardware consisted of Cisco routers, 3COM Ethernet switches, Sun servers, and Intel-based servers running Debian/GNU Linux.

·        Database administrator for Oracle databases storing apartment listings, consumer profile information, and site utilization statistics.  Core duties included designing, building and documenting database schemas, optimizing systems for high concurrency and throughput through pro-active monitoring of hit-ratio, link-row analysis, fragmentation, and reads per execution, and database archival.

·        Lead system architect for deployment of ATG Dynamo application server software.  Configured and tuned server and software to deliver over 1 million page views per day at a rate of peak rate of 50 pages per second with less then ½ second latency.

Mar 97 -                 Mar 99                    IBM Global Services/Chiron                                Emeryville CA

SENIOR SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR

·        Lead systems engineer for mid-range servers supporting more than 1000 clients worldwide.  Computing environment consisted of Sun, SGI and DEC systems.  Core accountability for systems architecture, performance tuning, trouble-shooting/problem resolution, security and SOP.  Systems lead for the design, acquisition, rollout and maintenance of servers supporting business applications for human resources, finance, scientific research, document imaging and scientific information management.

·        Mid-range servers team lead overseeing a staff of four administrators. Responsible for prioritizing and assigning projects and trouble tickets, interviewing candidates, establishing team performance objectives and reviewing personnel technical achievement.

·        Designed and installed the corporate firewall. Configured and maintained internal and external Internet mail relay services. Architectural responsibility for Intranet services.

Jan 96 - Mar 97                     Independent Consulting                                                           Berkeley CA

SYSTEMS ANALYST and ADMINISTRATOR

·        Developed AutoCAD-based design automation and information management aplications. Assisted clients in writing application specifications and QA procedures.

·        Database (Informix/Illustra and Sybase) programming, data modeling and installation and Web programming and server installation for on-line commerce. Configured secure on-line commerce and transaction processing using Verisign and Cybercash.

·        UNIX system administrator for research group and the National Engineering Education Delivery System (NEEDS), a database of engineering curriculum. Maintained NIS database, installed hardware, operating system and patches, monitored system performance, scheduled backups and provided end-user support.  Technical support for Web, C, UNIX shell and database (Sybase) programming.

May 95 - Oct 95                     Sun Microsystems, Inc.                                                           Palo Alto CA

SYSTEMS ANALYST

·        Strategic evaluation of Pro/ENGINEER on Sun workstations. Constructed hardware and software performance tuning guidelines for marketing literature and competitive benchmarks. Traced sources of performance bottlenecks in Pro/ENGINEER and Solaris software.  Made performance enhancement recommendations to operating system programmers or third-party developers when appropriate.

·        Tested and debugged SPARC Solaris 2.5 and UltraSPARC workstations. Verified “bug-free” operation of Solaris software on multiple configurations of hardware and graphics drivers.

Jun 93 - May 95                                     Autodesk, Inc.                                                       San Rafael CA

SYSTEMS ANALYST

·        Designed and installed a network-centric computer-aided design and information system for the $550 million Facilities CAD-2 Project (NAVFAC). Responsible for the integration and user-interface design of the relational database software (Informix), document management and workflow technology (Cimage) and computer-aided drafting and engineering applications (AutoCAD) on Sun workstations. Wrote SQL and C applications to upload CAD data to the database and assisted third-party developers in porting code to publish information to the database. Trained employees and clients on installing and maintaining the system. Documented procedures for installing a demonstration system for use at trade-shows and competitive benchmarks. Wrote user-interface guidelines and systems integration “white papers.”  Wrote marketing literature and promoted CAD-2 solution at trade-shows and customer sites.  Managed a “virtual corporation” team of approximately 20 core members in a matrix management style.

·        Coordinated technical support to Federal CAD developers, systems engineers and principal UNIX customers. Technical support included workstation failure analysis and recovery, diagnosing application crashes and recommending software fixes (patches). Maintained relationships with key federal UNIX AutoCAD customers through on-site visits, UNIX and AutoCAD technical support and sales fulfillment.

·        Participated in corporate Internet Task Force to specify the mission statement of the corporate Web-site, identify key customer needs from Web site and galvanize internal groups to participate in Web-site content development.
